Which calculators are allowed on the ACT, and how strict are they?

I'm prepping for the ACT and kinda stressed about what calculators I can bring. Can someone break down what's allowed and what's not? I don't want to show up with the wrong one and get thrown off my game.

Understanding the ACT calculator policy is indeed important to ensure you're fully prepared for the test day. The ACT permits the use of most graphing, scientific, and four-function calculators, as long as they don't have features that can compromise the test's integrity. Prohibited calculators include models with built-in computer algebra systems, models that can access the internet, make noise, or have a paper tape, among others.

Specific brands and models are barred, like the TI-89, HP Prime, and all calculator models with a QWERTY keypad. The ACT's website provides a comprehensive list of prohibited calculators. Make sure you check it before test day. Be aware that your calculator may be inspected by the proctor, and if it's on the prohibited list, you won't be allowed to use it. To be fully prepared, consider bringing an approved backup calculator. The ACT is quite strict about this policy to maintain a fair testing environment for all examinees, so do ensure that your model complies with their guidelines.
